Rat Proofing

Rat Proofing Services

Rats are more than just a nuisance—they pose serious health risks and can cause significant damage to homes and businesses. From chewing through electrical wires to contaminating food storage, rats can quickly become a costly problem if left unchecked.

At Sun Pest Control, we specialise in professional rat-proofing solutions, providing long-term protection by identifying entry points, sealing access, and implementing preventative measures. Our expert team ensures that your property remains secure, rat-free, and protected from future infestations.

Why Rat Proofing is Essential

Rats are highly adaptable and can squeeze through openings as small as 15mm. Without proper proofing, they can infiltrate your property and establish nests, leading to extensive damage and hygiene concerns.

The Dangers of a Rat Infestation

Health Risks
Diseases like salmonella, hantavirus, and leptospirosis are carried by rats and can be transmitted by their fur, urine, and droppings.
Structural Damage
Rats chew through wires, insulation, and pipes, increasing the risk of fires and water leaks.
Rapid Reproduction
A single pair of rats can produce hundreds of offspring per year, leading to an out-of-control infestation.
Food Contamination
Rats invade kitchens, pantries, and commercial food storage areas, gnawing through packaging and contaminating supplies.
Psychological Distress
The presence of rats can cause anxiety, stress, and discomfort for homeowners and business owners alike.

DIY traps and poisons provide only temporary relief—professional rat-proofing ensures a permanent solution by preventing access and eliminating attractants.

Our Rat Proofing Process

Sun Pest Control uses a comprehensive, multi-step approach to rat proofing, ensuring long-term effectiveness.

Step 1: Comprehensive Property Inspection

We conduct a thorough assessment of your property to locate entry points and risk areas. Our experts inspect:

Gaps in walls, floors, and skirting boards
Cracks in foundations and external walls
Openings around pipes, drains, and vents
Roof access points and attic spaces
Unsealed doors, windows, and air bricks

Step 2: Sealing & Blocking Entry Points

Our proofing process includes using chew-resistant materials to block access points effectively:

Steel Mesh & Metal Barriers: Installed in small gaps and vents to prevent entry.
Rodent-Proof Sealants: Used to fill cracks and holes in walls and floors.
Drain Covers & Pipe Sealing: Stops rats from accessing properties through plumbing systems.
Weatherproof Door Sweeps: Prevents rats from squeezing under doors.

Step 3: Environmental Adjustments & Prevention Measures

Beyond sealing entry points, we also focus on reducing attractants that lure rats inside:

Food Storage Solutions: Advice on keeping food in sealed containers to eliminate food sources.
Waste Management Strategies: Ensuring bins are secure and waste is disposed of properly.
Decluttering & Landscaping Tips: Removing potential nesting areas inside and outside the property.

Step 4: Ongoing Monitoring & Maintenance

For long-term protection, we offer follow-up inspections and monitoring services:

Regular checks to identify new vulnerabilities.
Reinforcement of existing proofing solutions.
Ongoing rodent prevention contracts for commercial properties and large buildings.
